Commuting in Des Plaines and Chicago Suburbs

There are plenty of options to commute in the Chicago suburban area. From Des Plaines via Milwaukee, there are lot of routes where cars commute. The bus routes are also available across and around Skokie. The bus services by Pace and Cta are really good and the best part about commuting via them is the calculated timings one bus has for the other connecting bus. So you can easily plan your journey using 2-3 buses after checking Google Maps and rach your destination smoothly.

The buses are very enjoyable to ride and you would easily spend your time looking outside and listening to songs, or reading books or watching movies in your tablet. You wouldn't even notice when 30-40 minutes have passed. The traffic is also very fast. During peak hours, you can expect a few stopages at a few signals for some more time than usual, but otherwise its great.

Living in the Chicago Suburban Area

This area is generally very quite. And if you are coming to work here from a offshore Indian company, which are generally located in cities, you might initially find it a bit boring. It is a very good living place for people looking for cheap accommodations. Since many big corporate firms have their centers in these areas, a huge number of workers and associates prefer to stay in this region. People from TCS, Accenture, Cognizant and number of other firms reside in this area. In fact, all the people who come to onsite from these organizations, become friends while travelling together daily or sitting together in the same client locations side by side.

From the general perspective, you will find commuting bit difficult by walking. Atleast you should have a cycle. As you can see here, the roads are very broad and driving is easy, and almost everyone owns a car or rents one to commute in this area.

Chicago suburbans are actually very good and famous for extremely cycle friendly tracks. Not only you can commute safely, you will also enjoy the cycling here.

Coming to Onsite at Chicago

As you must be already knowing, coming to onsite from any Indian IT company is seen by many as a privilege. When the plane lands in Chicago, one will get the feeling that it has been accomplished. It's a long journey to get the visa, processing of formalities, and after a really long near one day journey you reach. The feeling it gives you, Yes, you have finally done it! This feeling will take about a week to sink in. When you start the process of settling down, you won't have any time to think about or relishing the moments. About the first 3-4 weeks will go in fully settling down. (Full details of places of accommodation will be provided soon.)

Moments before the plane landing at O'Hare Airport
The advantage of settling down in this Chicago suburban area is that the cost of living is very low in some places and people can easily save 70-80% of their salary living here. So believe me, it just pays off to stay in the suburbs and moderately near your work location where you have to commute daily. These all information one must really collect and be aware of while taking a place to live. The best way you can do is by taking help from people who are already in your office you are coming to join. They will be able to provide you more insights than you can collect information by Googling.
